In 2374 The Starship Voyager was thrown back in time, arriving at earth in the late 20th century. Technology from the 27th century had contaminated earth's time line, and Voyager's EMH had picked up a holoemmitter from the future. Voyager, needing a doctor that can move freely about the ship, employed this technology.
