TYPE 2 PHASER

By 2363 A.D. Starfleet had introduced it's newest phaser series. This type 2 phaser had 16 power level settings, but was relativley bulky. Usage was primarily by security forces, while officers prefered to use the Type 1 Phaser. This phaser's power setting display is very large, but can only display half of the power setting level at a time.

Used in the first two seasons of ST: The Next Generation, this phaser prop soon became known as the dustbuster, because of it's size, and shape. At the time very little about the function of the Phaser was known, other than it had multiple power levels, so to their credit, the designers, and artisans who created it did not know specifically how many bars to put on the power meter.
