STARFLEET STANDARD SIDEARM CIRCA 2287 A.D.

ASSAULT PHASER

Apperantly abandoning the Phaser 1 concept completely by 2287 Starfleet had introduce this Phaser 2 into it's inventory as a standard sidearm. It's aggressive design, and combat chasis, with removable energy clip, earned it the name, the "Assault Phaser." One of the innovations made on the Phaser was a red ID tag which helped Starfleet track each Phaser in it's inventory. This weapon was in service through the end of the 23rd century.

This design Phaser prop was introduced in ST5: The Final Frontier, and used again in ST6: The Undiscovered Country. In ST5 several Hero props were made, each had a specific function. It is rumored that the P1 was internally stored under the sloped cowling of the body. Also each Phaser during the production of these films were fitted with red ID tags wich helped in set security.
